2005 Marques de Griñon Caliza

Castilla La Mancha, Spain / $24-$25 Retail

Family owned since 1292, this historic estate south of Madrid uses the advanced technology to make its wine, and it earned Spain's first Denominaton of Origin (D.O.) for the vineyards producing this wine's grapes. A blend of 65 percent Syrah and 35 percent Graciano, it was aged one year in new French oak. This bold, full-bodied wine has intense aromas of brambly dark fruit and black pepper, an earthy quality, firm but polished tannins, good acidity and a long finish. It's good with roasted pork, beef, veal and hearty stews. Buy it at: W.I.N.O. Drink it at: Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse, Loa and W.I.N.O.
