The Neighborhood Story Project holds court as the first local
featured guest at the 2009 Alternative Media Expo. The UNO-sponsored,
7th Ward project, which has published eight books about New Orleans by
New Orleanians since its inception in 2004, will promote its latest
work, The House of Dance and Feathers: A Museum by Ronald
Lewis, amid a grab-bag of 100-plus exhibitors — showing
off comics, 'zines, clothing, photography, music, film and jewelry
— and others with Ph.D.s in craftiness. The seventh-annual event
is sandwiched between two associated shindigs at One Eyed Jacks (615
Toulouse St., 569-8361; www.oneeyedjacks.net): a Dirty Coast
fashion show (9 p.m. Friday) featuring designs by expo attendees, and
an after-party twin bill (10 p.m. Saturday) with bounce rapper Ballzack
and the elusive electro-pop duo Buttons. Expo admission $5; fashion
show and concert tickets $10 each.
