2010 Six Hats Chenin Blanc

Western Cape, South Africa

$10-$13 Retail

While classic Chenin Blanc wines hail from France's central Loire Valley, South Africa is producing possibly the best value-priced Chenin Blanc in the New World. This wine has a fresh, light, fruit-forward style and exhibits aromas of melon, tropical notes, spices and a stony minerality. In the mouth, the wine is crisp and refreshing with a lively acidity and subtle hints of peach, citrus and guava. Serve chilled. Drink now and over the next one to two years. A fine aperitif and delicious accompaniment to lighter fare like salads, cold soups, roasted beets and goat cheese, pate, boiled crawfish, white-fleshed fish and Asian cuisine. Buy it at: Cork & Bottle, Wine Seller, W.I.N.O. and Vine & Dine. Drink it at: Chateau du Lac, W.I.N.O. and Vine & Dine Wine Bar & Bistro. Listings current at press time. — Brenda Maitland
