The Big Easy Foundation has announced nominees for its 2011 Big Easy Music Awards. Special awards will go to Entertainer of the Year John Boutte as well as the Radiators, who will be honored for lifetime achievement. Kermit Ruffins is the Honorary Music Awards Chairperson.
The HOB series Treme will receive a Special Recognition award, and show producers David Simon and Eric Overmyer will be honored as Ambassadors of New Orleans Music. There also are awards for 21 music categories ranging from traditional jazz and gospel to DJ/electronica and heavy metal. Other honors include best male and female performer and best album of 2010.
Winners will be announced at the Big Easy Awards on Monday, April 25, at a ceremony at Harrah's New Orleans, and there will be perfomances by nominated artists. The event is sponsored by Gambit, WWOZ-FM, Abita Brewing Co., Harrah's New Orleans and Coleman E. Adler and Sons. For ticket information and reservations, call 483-3129.
