This rose is produced in the heart of southern France's Languedoc region. Located in the Pays D'Oc subzone near the town of Beziers, La Jeanne estate's winery and vineyards were the dream of owner-winemaker Frederic Faro. Just 5 miles from the Mediterranean Sea, the vineyards enjoy a moderate climate with coastal breezes and few temperature swings. The area's rocky soils are composed of limestone, clay, coarse alluvial sands and terra rossa components, allowing good drainage. The wine is a blend of classic Mediterranean and Rhone River Valley grapes: 70 percent grenache and 30 percent syrah. Harvested fruit was placed atop previously picked bunches so the weight of the new fruit created the gravity flow of free-run juice, a practice that minimizes bitterness from seeds crushed by machine processes. This vintage's entire bottling came from free-run juice. In the glass, it offers subtle aromas of strawberry and floral notes. On the palate, taste delicate red berry flavors, hints of watermelon, pleasing minerality and solid acid balance on the dry finish. Drink it with roasted nuts, sushi, paella, grilled fish, pork loin, fowl, veal and red beans and rice with sausage. Buy it at: Bin 428 and Swirl Wine Bar & Market. Drink it at: Borgne, Amici Ristorante & Bar, Orleans Grapevine Wine Bar & Bistro and Delachaise. — BRENDA MAITLAND
