6t'9 Social Aid & Pleasure Club Parade

Only in New Orleans would you find a children's Halloween parade that features the Soul Rebels Brass Band, the full Warren Easton High School Marching Band, Skull and Bones marchers, the Big 7 Social Aid and Pleasure Club, the decidedly adult charms of Queen Katrina and Princess Pony Rita, and a mob of costumed revelers. Celebrating the success of its first two over-the-top haunting forays through Treme, Marigny and Bywater, the Sixth Ward to Ninth Ward club says that the 'Third Time's a Charm." The parade is even a bit green " in traditional Mardi Gras parade fashion " as there are no motors involved. Small floats are pulled by hand and costumed children (for a reduced membership fee) are invited to ride in the mule-drawn bandwagon and toss beads and candy to spectators. Start your pre-Halloween Saturday night early with the scariest of second lines. The parade starts on St. Claude Avenue, circles by Armstrong Park, salutes the Backstreet Cultural Museum, heads for St. Bernard Avenue and the Seventh Ward's Porch headquarters, struts by the French Quarter on Esplanade Avenue and then boomerangs back on Frenchmen Street and into the Bywater toward its Halloween ball. Route and details available on the Web site. " Will Coviello
