Re: “Monkey Business: The Louisiana Science Education Act

Supposedlly "openminded" writes:" Why do people get so defensive when it comes differing opinion on the subject of the "theory" of evolution? It is a theory, not a fact, not a proof, a theory. "
There's the tip off the writer is a creationist an ignorant one at that. A theory in science is a confirmed conceptual model explaining something observed. Its not a guess as implied.

"There are some serious questions that have been offered by many qualified people in the scientific community as to the validity of Darwins conclusions." No, not many qualified people in the scientific community. Only a few who have allowed religious thinking to corrupt their scientific thinking.

" Central to his theory is the idea that species evolve from a common ancestor. To date there is no consistent information that can withstand "constant testing for reproducible results and/or scrutiny." False. Its been confirmed overwhelmingly.
"Even supporters of the theory have had to rethink or restate a number of the central points."
Irrelevant. Science refines knowledge.

"The "Origin of Species" is a misnomer. While modern research in genetics, microbiology, paleontology, etc. has revealed an enormous amount of factual data regarding different species, it has yet to support the key notion of observable mutation between species. " False. Either you know nothing or are deceiving.

"Therefore, any conclusion about a common ancestry is questionable at best." Only to an ignoramus.
" I'm not a scientist," Obviously.
" but I will say it is time for us to encourage students to employ the kind of critical thinking that is essential to any scientific endeavor. " Critical thinking applied to facts, yes. Not the lies you and the creationists have been spewing.

"Whether it be Darwinism, Intelligent Design, Relativity, Cognitive Development, Big Bang, etc. Theories are just theories and all must stand on their own merit and be subject to the kind of scrutiny that some seem all too willing to prohibit."
As stated scientific theories, like evolution, relativity, are confirmed and consistent with fact. Intelligent Design isn't a theory. Its a theological speculation based on a desire to believe in a creator and no facts. None. Zero.
