Re: “Pirates of the Gulf Coast

A good article outlining the greed & indifference of the so-called "elite" - though in point of fact, this is exactly the sort of behaviour that Pyrates of the Gulf Coast fought AGAINST - and still do. The people of South Louisiana (and Mississippi, Florida...) who have generations of life & culture built into this land have bee treated poorly for long enough - ignored, walked over & sprayed with toxic chemicals - all in the name of greed/profit. They do not deny that the oil industry has employed many of them over the last 100 years, HOWEVER they also are well aware of the damage that has been done in that same period (and worse in the last 20-40 years) and the fact that nobody will own up to it or make any attempt to repair or stop the ongoing damage to this area - their home!
Pyrates? Aye, we need more Pyrates like Laffite, Beluche Youx, Lafon...they helped build a city, they created jobs for those who had been abandoned by their governments, they treated all equally and shared equally - and fought against tyranny and greed...and a good keelhauling to those who crossed the line!

11. Listen to all the people, all the time...especially the ones who have nothing to gain from kissing yer behind.

12. Live up to at least half the good yer Daddy did and it'll be 5x the amount anyone has done since

13. BE the Mayor that New Orleans needs

Re: “Is there more than one Gray Ghost in New Orleans

If Radke wants to clean up gangland tags and obscenities from buildings, then why (as ReX and others have suggested) doesn't he use readily available cleaning products? THese have been around for years - long enough that there are now environmentally friendly products. Of course a good pressure wash will work on any stone building. But then if Radke really wanted to help, he'd at least color match instead of the swath of grey that gets rolled helter-skelter across tags and art alike.

Just because art is painted directly on a wall or other structure does not make it vandalism - ask fans of Michelangelo. Just because an artist chooses spray paint as his plaette does not make him a vandal - ask Banksy (On 21 May 2007 Banksy gained the award for Art's Greatest living Briton. On 27 April 2007, a new record high for the sale of Banksy's work was set with the auction of the work 'Space Girl & Bird' fetching £288,000 (US$576,000), around 20 times the estimate at Bonhams of London.)

ReX Dingler, NoLA Rising and it's many affiliated artists have done more for their community, art, children and families in 4 years than most people do in a lifetime!

Re: “Pyrateweek

From March 26 thru April 4 (2010) the citizens of New Orleans celebrate NOLA PYRATE WEEK - nine days of swashbuckling, art, music, food, events and general camaraderie among the Pyrates of New Orleans - past & present - and their mates from around the globe! Starting with the Kids Leukemia Regatta on Lake Pontchartrain and featuring TWO parades! More volunteering and fundraising, Festival De Jean Lafitte, vendor fair...and much more!

NOLA Pyrate Week was originally conceived and developed in the heart of New Orleans by a small group of like minded "Pyrates of The New World" who have now been by many other Pyrates, Artists, Musicians, Community/Charitable Organizations, Krewes, Local Business and other citizens who support our creed:
"Take what ye can...GIVE something back!"™
