Dear Gene Inman,
I don't know when you lived in Hog Alley. I spent my entire life there until 2001 and none of "us girls" were ugly. Your name is not familiar. My entire family lived there and my daughter and grandson are the 6th generation of my family in the N.O. area and they're still in the Alley. My grandpa came there with the Betz's, Papworth's, etc. I lived in the 1st block of Aris then on Lake. Anyway, what a wonderful place to grow up. Now I'm not so sure. Back in the good old days there was Delerno's, Mickey's, McKenzie's and after Veteran's Hwy. was put in you could eat at J.C's. I'm sorry that things were "ugly" when you were there. My story is different. Pelican Lanes, parades on Metairie Road (not just St. Patrick's),live bands at the ElDorado and a wonderful childhood.
