The Sauve Crevasse that spawned the flood depicted in this map (look familiar? Check Katrina flood footprint) is in River Ridge, near Sauve Rd. (nice plaque on Jefferson Hwy. commemorating the historic event in 1849).
Ate my first raw oyster there, around 1968. Looked the same way coming up as it did when it want down! Learned to love them though. Sister washed dishes there for years. She called to say Al Hirt was on his way to eat boiled crabs one day. I went and sat at the bar just to see how he was doing. He was thin, but dug into those crabs like it was no-bodys business. He died a few months later.
