Congratulations! I get it. You apparently were NOT raised here, as in born and raised. Not to you personally, but why is it, individuals think this is how we, who are born here live? I am born and raised in New Orleans in a Roman Catholic environment, by two God-fearing, devout Catholics. I was born in the mid-40's, a "war-baby" as we were called, in an environment, where I was taught the "social graces" of
polite society to "curtsy" when introduced for the first time and shake hands. Never stared or looked an adult in the eye, as it was thought to be a personal affront. When a baby was christened at the ripe old age of 2 weeks, a sip of champagne touched the baby's lips. This is a French Culture.
On holidays, our Mother kept a bottle of Mogen David Concord Grape wine as our drink with our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. A very small cocktail glass. By the time we were in high school, Catholic again, no one thought of it. No one I knew drank and drove a car. If we did, it was in walking distance home. We were taught to have a cocktail at weddings, again wine or champagne and never ever drink to excess. Our father would come home from working two jobs, get 2 bottles of beer out of the refrigerator, get 4 paper cups, split that 2nd beer, 4 ways, (4 girls), and conversate with him about school, clothes, everything! This didn't occur every day, week or month, just on special occasions.
I cringe when I watch TV and see the way New Orleans is presented, like a whore on the make! I live on the East Coast and tell my friends that the depictions shown are of visitors or college students who never had any fun growing up. Our parents were strict and our job was to be good students and presentable young ladies with impeccable manners. Our French Culture is over 250 years old. The food, our European ways, the way we worship God, whether we be Catholic, Protestant or Jewish, separated New Orleans from the pack! I wish when "never lefts" come to New Orleans, please read up on our unique History. We are NOT drunks, whores or seedy types, one thinks we are! I represent 7 generations of French/Indian and Black descendants who are rolling in their graves due to Bourbon Street! Please spread THIS account, if you dare!
I LOVED the piece! Why? I'm stuck in NJ but do you have any idea how we in NJ felt how unfair and disrespectful this was? The Saints won 1 Superbowl
and this know nothing picked them as the "example" to teach the rest a lesson! When he's introduced, I hope he gets a tepid response! Where is the Players Union? Go Ravens!
So what was HE thinking?
Nothing done in the dark can endure. When it's done in the dark, it will soon come to light! What in the world was he thinking? Above the law comes to mind.
Nixon thought he was above the law too, then Water-Gate! All that foul language he used made New Orleans look thuggish, uncouth and he looked like the buffoon he's turned out to be!
The little guy gets yet, another soaking, until there's no employment, no taxes to collect, etc! Where does Jindal think he is? In India? Better still, who elected this odd-ball?
What is this I'm reading? The New Jim Crow? Wide open to abuse of
mostly minorities. A way to keep Americans indefinitely, just like
slavery. Unconstitutional and illegal to sell state assets by the crooks running the state. Where is the Justice Department and the Innocence
project, NAACP and the ACLU? Sell this to some other fool! I have a bridge I want to sell you!
John Waters: ONE in a Million! He makes "tongue in cheek" look normal!
