Gambit does not address the culpability of the parents or the schools true reason to cover-up. Overly indulgent parents are providing their children with far too much spending money. It's a lot harder to get mixed up with drugs when the child doesn't have loads of money to throw around. Even after expulsion, jail, and rehab, this frankly smug kid, appears to have everything he wishes.
The schools attempt to portray themselves as compassionate, when their actual mission is to maintain attendance and tuition by turning a blind eye toward the most serious infractions.Schools know that parents are reluctant to associate with "drug" schools. Schools compound the problem and encourage parents to ignore them by equating normal high-school drinking with heroin and other hard-core drugs. instead of concentrating on eliminating the "really bad" kids.
