Re: “The American Cajun

What strikes me about these pictures, besides their portrayal of the Cajun people and their patriotism, is the setting against which they are portrayed. That dark and somewhat foreboding landscape with the massive, black trees is as much a character in the works as the people. Those trees are so starkly expressive and representative of the new home that the Cajuns adopted over time. Congratulations to Rodrigue on a wonderful collection of works and to you, Wendy, on presenting them so well!

Re: “The artist's mother

Wendy, you wrote an excellent piece about Marie! I'm glad that you portrayed a unique character in honor of Mother's Day instead of a sugarplum version of an idealized mother. I'm sure that she was quite a handful but time has a way of smoothing over the less pleasant parts and leaving the highlights. I do feel badly for George that she never recognized his vast artistic ability. That is a real pity. Parental approval is something we all seek, no matter what else we may achieve.

Re: “Tony Bernard: Louisiana's festival poster King

Tony is a fabulous artist and this year's Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival poster is a knockout. I just love all that strong color! Thanks for writing about him, Wendy, and thanks for keepin' on keepin' on, Tony!

Re: “Art in Biloxi

Excellent post, Wendy, as always! That horse is to die for! Beautiful work from all the artists you included, and you are so right about the cultural wealth that the arts bring to us. People forget that art and music make life worth living.

Re: “Spring in Wyoming

Very funny! I'm glad y'alls are having a great time on the other side of the country. Who knew that the cultures of the West and South were so closely linked?

What a great post, Wendy! Pavy is a fascinating painter. I'd love to see his work in person.
