RE: " Greener Bayou St. John members decided each neighborhood association would be responsible for getting input from residents about what to include in the master plan."
No one anywhere has elected or appointed any neigborhood association to represent them. In the system of representaional democracy we live under the smallest granualr elected representative is the City Council Member. It is their job to canvas their constiuants on matters like this. As a member of a neighborhood association I can tell you that as much as they may want to, they don't represent their neigborhood. They represent the opinion of the few who can take the time to show up and even among those who show up the opinions vary all over the spectrum. Some neighborhood associations are open to all and some are run as private lobyist groups. They have no legal or moral authority to speak for the residents of a neigborhood.
You are definately NOT the last white male liberal. I'm one and I know many in my circle of friends. It just seems that way sometimes...
Smoking is not a right or an issues of individual liberty. Tobbacco smoke (first hand, second hand and third hand - that which clings to clothes, hair furnishings etc...) is a proven carcinogen and mutagen.
Do you think we should protect bar owners/employees/patrons rights to be exposed to benzene?! I think bars should be required to pump benzene into the air their patrons and employees breathe.
