There must be a distinction made between types of Airbnb rentals. Many local renters offer a spare bed or couch short-term to tourists in order to be able to afford their rent. This allows low-income households a way to cover the high rental costs in the city. This is very different than owning a property for the sole purpose of earning short-term rental income. New Orleanian renters have had to get creative to be able to afford living in this city, and I see nothing wrong with that.
I've always considered this building graceful and lovely. It's large windows surely provided a sunlit, airy space for patients, and I, for one, am glad it will be repurposed.
