I saw a presentation of the results of an RTA/Regional Planning Commission survey of riders yesterday. Although we like to describe streetcars as being only for tourists, 90% of riders on the Canal line are local. Even on the St. Charles line, 3 out of 4 riders are local.
Tourists may be more noticeable because they are unfamiliar with the system. Being accommodating to them is something to be proud of. Better system information, fare collection, wayfinding, boarding/exiting etiquette, signal control, and reducing vehicle crossings would all help the streetcars stay on schedule.
Mr. Landrieu, tear down that fence!
Re: “Louisiana's craft brew scene”
Many of these start-up breweries used the term "nano," but without such a designation in Louisiana, they must be working with a distributor. Is this true? How has the permitting process been for the small operations profiled? How many barrels are they starting at? Are they facing the same scale issues that led Gnarly Barley to go straight to micro?
