I see this issue from both sides.
I live half a block away from St Charles, but go out the night before Bacchus to set up so we can actually get a chance to see the parades...it's become necessary if you don't want to be completely blocked off from the actual parade. Forget Zulu- that route is so full of BBQ's & rope & threats that we are actually freaked out when we try to experience it.
So, we do it on our block, but we don't like it. In fact, we are giving Mardi Gras a miss next year because it's become too much of a production trying to squeeze in between ladders & stake out a spot just so we can have a chance to enjoy things without being on someone else's territory.
We miss the days of it being easygoing & simple to wander on out & see a parade.
