The idea that all of this stuff is out there JUST to mark territory infuriates me. If you didn't bring it at all, you wouldn't NEED territory. There would be ample place to stand. I am especially pissed at the people who set up 10 chairs and don't even sit in them. What is all of this territoriality for?
I'm not even 30, and I remember when the idea of marking one's spot for Mardi Gras was ludicrous. Your spot was where you were standing, which was roughly where your friends and/or family were also standing. If you got moved 5 feet in either direction, it was no biggie -- you'd make your way back. If someone stood in front of you when a float was passing, you stood in front of them when the next float passed. Mardi Gras was fun back then.
