Also in mid-city on a regular schedule is the Fat Falafel. They set up in the ya-ya glass parking lot(3924 Conti), adjacent to Rouses every Wednesday starting at 11:30.
!hablamos español aqui, tío!
I wasn't trying to insult you with my comment, it was offered more to demonstrate that the Saints defense DOES gets paid to hit people, they can do it legally, and that you and I can't ever do it--legally. If they hurt someone on a legal hit, then yes, they get paid to hurt people. Guys get hurt from legal hits all the time in the NFL. I apologize if you took my narration as an insult.
There is a major difference between tackling and assault. But there a couple things you are also missing here. Favre and Warner, publicly, do not hold grudges on the saints. Privately they may, I don't know. If you watch the video attached to Alejandro's column, (and Peter King's sports illustrated article that hit yesterday)you'll see former players who admit that these schemes existed decades ago, and that they were not told to take players out of the game. These same players also admit they got money for interceptions, big hits, game changing plays, etc. What Greg Williams, or Vilma for that matter said to the saints players, may have been different.
The scheme itself is dirty. There is no doubt about that. The saints should be punished, and because they were told to stop, and they did not, they deserve a little lagniappe added for that too.
To your point that football is NOT sanctioned violence, well, we'll have to agree to disagree on that. In terms of justifying foul play, I'll admit it was dirty, I just don't think that this is worse than some other scandals. Guys get hit hard already in this game. Guys go hard on every play already in this game.
Concussions and player safety and long-term health is a sticking point that the players brought up in the CBA discussions, and does need to be addressed, rightfully so.
If Brees were injured in this way, on a legal hit, I can't say anything. If it were illegal, then a fine should come. If it was during a pay-for-hit scheme, we'll see what happens to the Saints, and then I'll know what to expect for the next team that does it... Hell, he may be a target this season after all this has come out!
You don't get paid to knock people to the ground. You're job description doesn't include "run and hit guys occasionally over 300 pounds." Millions of people don't watch you run around on Sundays or Monday nights in black tights, fist pumping, and high-fiving other players in black tights when one of you wrestles a guy in opposing colors to the ground.
Football is sanctioned violence. The quicker you understand that the players live by a different set of rules on the field, than you and me off of it, the easier it will be to understand how this is just unsportsman-like.
Keep that in mind...
I think 26 of the 32 teams have a sponsored stadium. Does Benson need the money, or just want the money?
How about Rosenberg's stadium? They could put the 'special man' out front, and have him say: "Let her have it" all day long!!!
