Justin, the problem is not over population. There are not enough dogs to meet demand. Dogs are being smuggled into the country because of restrictions in this country. The shelters are not full of puppies. Majority of the dogs in shelters are adults or seniors. The problem is the majority of the population see the dog as a "throw away" item. When they are tired of the barking or it ate the shoes, poop on the floor, it goes to the shelter or gets dumped. People need to view pets as a life long responsibility, if they no longer want the pet, properly re home it. As long as people view pets as throw away items, the shelters will be full of pets. Not everybody wants an adult dog or maybe the shelters don't have the breed desired, this is why millions are killed in shelters each year and this is why puppy mills stay in business.
Dogsbite.org is run by people who are dog haters. I do not recommend that site for accurate information about dogs or bites. It is most likely run by attorneys who just want your money, just my opinion. Keep in mind that the Pit bull breeds are very popular. For every one that makes the head lines because he responded to a bad situation with aggression, there are a hundred thousand that are abused and neglected, starved, left in the cold and they never bite a soul. For the person who posted about a Pit who came in her house and attacked her dog, that one dog did not like dogs. It does not mean they are all going to attack. Most do not. Take off your blinders, educate yourself.
