This is by far THE BEST and FRESHEST sushi you will eat in NOLA. "Elvis," the chef, as the regulars like to call him, only feeds you the freshest of fish. Although the atmosphere may seem dull at best, do not let it change your opinion of eating here. Some of my personal favorites: Spicy Cherry Stone Clam Soup (if you have that winter congestion like many of us get, this will clear it in a heartbeat!), South Beach Roll (fresh tuna with avocado and snowcrab wrapped in colorful soy paper and drizzled with a fantastic light eel sauce-- not the gooey brown stuff most Japanese restaurants serve), 6-8 Roll (not on the menu, but a must try! never could really figure out what's in it, but it is melt-in-your-mouth heaven. comes with a confection of crunchy rice noodles on top, but don't let it alarm you... they're half the fun of the roll!), and Deluxe Baked Green Mussels (not the tiny little mayo-filled mussel shells you get at mediocre Japanese places. these mussels are DELUXE--hence the name. topped with snowcrab and Elvis' "fantasy sauce" you will be asking for more more more!
Lastly, whenever dining in, make sure to ask for the chocolates when you get your bill. Lin (Elvis' wife) makes these unbelievably good chocolates that are frozen on the outside but milky smooth on the inside. No idea how she does it, but they're complimentary sooo GET THEM!
Elvis, Lin, and their staff try to make you feel at home and enjoy catering to your every need. Even if you don't fancy anything you see on the menu, just ask Elvis to whip you up something or give him specific things you like, and he will make you your own original roll. I make special 45-min. drives just to come eat here because it is that great.
