Re: “"Do atheists hate the Saints?"

The "Saints" mascot is not an insulting racially based moniker that offends. It is an historical figure. This is a silly argument and a false equivalency. I may not believe in the popular idea of "God", but I do believe in Brees!! Geaux Saints!!

Re: “Funny People: The New Movement (TNM)

Wow. Kudos to Trew and gang for their wonderful press, but did you do ANY research on the scene here? I'm sorry Mr Ian Black had a bad night, but what about the national headliners who have performed here and have returned to good receptions? How about the multiple other venues and performers who work to make NOLA a comedy scene who seem to have been dismissed in the early part of the article under this sentence:
"Meanwhile, New Orleans has had open-mic shows with middling to little followings, scattered improv, stand-up and sketch performances, and the occasional touring comedian stuck with a shitty audience."
You obviously did not even attempt to check the accuracy of this claim. Or did it not fit the narrative? I have been a part of this scene, off and on, for well over a decade. I have produced sold out shows with names like Todd Barry and Doug Stanhope. The New Orleans Comedy Arts Festival had 3 packed nights of national and local comics just a few weeks ago. National Comedy Company packs the room upstairs from Yo Mama's every Saturday for years. Comedy Gumbeaux runs a great show.
If you really want to do a positive piece on a scene that has produced a great number of touring and local acts, perhaps a little follow up and a few phone calls would help. I have a list and would be glad to give you a nuanced and real description of comedy in the Big Easy.
