Brilliant! Kevin Allman rocks.
“I know that the layoff at The Times-Picayune SEEMS significant,” O’Byrne added. Hello? Many of these people are longtime colleagues of James'. Is anyone in leadership of the organization ever going to voice TRUE sympathy and remorse for the lives being upended by this move?
If you need New Orleanians to know what's REALLY going on with The Times-Picayune, tell Kevin Allman.
I agree that it's not the silver bullet, but simply another way for the community to show their support for the newspaper.
BTW, we're up to 360 signatures and counting as of 5:30 PM CDT.
As I posted earlier on NOLA.com, I'm not very proud today that this is the kind of stuff for which I left the Picayune and went back to grad school to specialize in writing - and which I made a second career out of. "Reallocate" and "accelerate," (along with "synergistic," "restructure," "optimize" etc.) are all the kinds of words any self-respecting editor would have shot me for using in a Times-Picayune story. But that was 18 years ago; I guess more has changed than simply the growth of the Internet.
Re: “Times-Picayune to begin printing on days it doesn't print in order to provide "front-to-back newspaper reading experience"”
