Oh My God. Are these people serious? They fire half the news staff. They plan to hire some low-cost, inexperienced people to replace some of them, mostly doing high school sports, entertainment and leading discussions, and they expect us to believe they are going to deliver anything but inane stories and blogs. And they boost that their current website is the best in New Orleans. I doubt that. But among newspaper websites, it's one of the worst in the nation and soon it won't have any of the serious stories offered by the very talented people being laid off. This is a nightmare. It's time to embarrass Steve Newhouse with his New York friends by revealing more of his sick plan to rob a vital city of its newspaper and replace it with three-days-a-week newspaper and website run by people who don't know the first thing about news. It's insulting for them to say they knew all along that their plan would not be greeted warmly. It's being greeted with bitter anger from the very people the TP needs on its side. Here's a PR tip to O'Bryne and Steve Newhouse. Don't try to pretend that firing half the staff really isn't so bad. And don't tell us that Woodward and Bernstein are going to be so impressed that they'll rush to New Orleans to accept your minimum wage jobs. The only people who are going to be rushing to New Orleans to join this Titantic-like "innovation" will be recent grads who, unfortunately, don't have any other prospects.
