I'm not a fan of Anne Hathaway but - or maybe because of this - I was amazed at her performance of I Dreamed A Dream. I didn't expect this kind of intensity from her.
Otherwise I completely enjoyed the movie. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Samantha Banks as Eponee; she stuck out like a sore toe and killed the immersion of the film. She looked and sang like a 1990s pop star.
Her hair was wrong for the period, I don't think there were many threading studios in 1800s Paris where she could get her eyebrows done so impeccably, and her costumes also seemed quite a bit too modern. She's cute, I'll give her that, and she can sing; but I hope future directors give her an instructor to help her change her singing style. And I hope future directors ensure the hair and makeup people get it right.
