Re: “Review: Les Miserables

Yep, I think Samantha Banks was the only truly good singer in the film. Amanda had a surprising range but little strength to her voice. Eddie would probably be great with more training but he was so nasal on his higher notes! I feel the the director really took the music out of the most important arias to play up the emotion. Having heard Anne Hathaway sing in other films I certainly expected more vocally from her but I don't think it was her fault, just the direction. Acting was wonderful, singing so so. Russel Crow was possibly the WORST cast actor I have EVER seen in a singing role. I don't think he was meant to be the comic relief but you could hear people in the audience snicker every time he opened his mouth. Over all I think it was beautiful and enjoyed it very much. Hugh Jackman was wonderful in the role with the exception of his big aria, due to the fact that he has no upper range or the ability to sing in falsetto evidently. They definitely took the music out of this musical but I would nevertheless see it again for the beauty and emotion of it. (This is all, of coarse, just my opinion, please don't attack me)
