Vitter would be much better served by opening his own boutique to sell his personal line of adult diapers to patrons who share his desire to be humiliated by prostitutes. He would finally be a contributing member of our society and be in a place where he couldn't harm our country.
The sad reality is that many of the homeless suffer from mental illness. I remember when the Reagan Administration ordered that the federally funded mental health institutions release their patients with medication and a good luck wish back in the 80s. The number of homeless skyrocketed including the issue of panhandling in our cities and an increase in crime. As a society we have struggled to deal with the fallout of dismantling our mental healthcare system and the short-term savings of closing mental health facilities pales in comparison to the cost in human suffering, the rise in crime and the deplorable living conditions suffered by many homeless Americans. Until we address this reality this will continue to be an issue for our city and our country.
You have to admire the ethics of Bobby Jindal. The oil industry bought and paid for an obedient lapdog and despite the obvious evidence that the citizens of our state are being screwed royally by these companies, Jindal remains loyal to their wishes and desires. If only the citizens of Louisiana could find someone to be our Governor who would show such loyalty to us and our state.
No surprise that Bobby Jindal is doing what is best for Bobby Jindal. That has been his life's mantra no matter the cost to the citizens he claims to represent. The voters are ultimately responsible for continuing to elect big oil puppets like Jindal who live to please their corporate masters our environment be damned. This is catching up with us as the wetlands vanish and the piper is demanding payment for all of the years we allowed the oil industry to have carte blanche as they sucked up our natural resources. You are one of the distressingly few members of the media who are outspoken on this issue. The rest of the Fourth Estate is asleep at the wheel when it comes to Big Oil.
I wasn't born and raised here like many of my friends. I moved here in high school which was a great age to be introduced to the city. I fell in love with it then (the early-mid 80's) & left for college while always coming back to visit as often as I could. I was determined to one day move back to my adopted hometown and was finally able to do so in November of 2003. Hard to believe a decade has (almost) passed since I made New Orleans my permanent home. So I can tell folks who ask me that while I may not have originated here I am definitely from here. I will be from here until the day I depart this mortal coil because once you have this city and region in your blood there is no where else to go by choice.
Scalise is a pathetic excuse for a human being and should have the common decency to resign his office for his total lack of empathy and compassion for those he pretends to represent. He is a fully owned puppet mouthpiece for the far-right religious fundamentalist power players in Louisiana as well as the willing lackey of corporations & the wealthy. He would be a joke if he didn't hurt so many citizens of our state.
I know Mick Fleetwood from his standout work as an alien on an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation but who knew he played in a band????
