I remember this. I frequented a bar one block away, upstairs on the corner of Iberville and Royal, the Safari Lounge, mostly an African-American, and predominately gay. I remember the way both homosexuals and homosexuality were castigated, as usual, both by the media, and in the streets. Homophobia was rampant, and at least for gays, this town at the time was never considered tolerant or hospitable; quite the contrary, which is the only observation you make with which I must vehemently disagree, Clancy...
