Though Kermit is a friendly guy and I like his music, I don't recommend going to his speakeasy during Jazz Fest. We arrived around 5:00 pm for what was supposed to be his Monday-night 6:00 pm show, to get a table for food and a view of the stage. Instead of free music with our meal -- the food was tasty and the wait staff very sweet and hospitable -- there was a $20 cover charge. The door staff crammed so many people into the space that we could neither see the stage, nor move easily to the single-use restrooms.
Kermit is notorious for being late to start his sets. Beginning at about 6:30, a staff member stepped up to the microphone every 15 minutes, saying that the show "should be starting soon." By 7:30, a staff member said that he had to go find Kermit and talk him into hitting the stage to start the show. I find this to be disrespectful to customers and fans -- especially when we were surprised with a $20 cover charge. I understand the desire to make an extra buck while the crowds are in town. Had the cover been $10, I wouldn't have felt ripped off by the experience.
