Paris, America presents new paintings, sculpture, media installations and art happenings in a smashup between the old and the new world, classical and pop, media and art. The artists are part of the first generation of 1980's creative rebels influenced by post-punk, MTV, street art, graffiti and comics, who produced breakthrough gritty, urban, anti-establishment, counterculture images on billboards, city streets and screens across the world. Classically educated at leading art schools and universities including Parsons School of Design in New York, L'institute des Art Decoratifs in Paris and Sydney University - the Oxford of the Southern hemisphere, they initially rejected their formal training to unleash a fury of raw arte povera. Eventually recognizing that the media is the real cultural force of today, each artist sought out award-winning careers as cutting edge art directors, designers, illustrators, animators, writers and film and TV directors. They reconvene from across the world in New Orleans to share their world view in this seminal ground-breaking show. Barristers Gallery. Now until March 5.
