Re: “General Robert E. Lee statue in New Orleans may be replaced

This isn't about reprehensible people. Like Bob has said..no person deserves that mile high pedestal and real estate. This is about the civil war and why are we decorating our city with these people? The civil war was the biggest mistake ever made by this country, so why are we celebrating it? What did Lee do for us in New Orleans? What was his connection and love for this city that we decorate a huge circle with a mile high monement of him? Why are we decorating and celebrating the biggest mistake this country ever made? What is the relevance of all of this civil war ornamentation in our city...this city..New Orleans?
Bringing in Andrew Jackson is again the old trick of apples to oranges

I do not think that Andrew Jackson belongs in this conversation. He was a president of the United States, and he really does have a connection to New Orleans. This is in no way comparable to robert e lee, so maybe that is why you have not heard it mentioned to re-do Jackson Square...maybe because it is irrelevant.

Re: “What should replace Lee Circle?

No one has said to destroy monuments and no one has said to hide or destroy history. These huge decorations are a proud representation of when this country made a very very bad mistake and bad decisions. The worst mistake ever made in this country. Why are we celebrating a mistake? We said these people were property and not human and we made a fortune on them.
Do you celebrate the wrong things that you did in your personal life? I think not. You probably have them hidden away and then celebrate the good things..reunions, marrigaes, children etc. Not when you were in jail drunk. Can no one have any empathy with people who may be offened by these grandiose celebrations, of statues and flags?

Re: “River levee bike path closes for two months starting Monday

So they closed this section for almost 2 years to raise the levee higher.Tore up the path and rebuilt it, and finally, recenlty re-opened.it I guess it would be too much to ask as to why didn't Entergy do this work while it was already closed.

Re: “Vic and Nat'ly cartoonist Bunny Matthews announces he has brain cancer

My God I hate to hear this. Bunny is a great guy with a fantastic wit. He captured New Orleanians to the T in cartoons and made us all laugh at ourselves. Well my friend..prayer is powerfull and I will be praying for you.

And remember..Don't believe any false rumors unless you hear them from Mayor Vic Schiro!

Re: “The Baronne Street bike lane: all kinds of #fail

A lot of good posts here. It seems these folks who posted here did more homework than the politicians did.
So now that a lot of good points have been made, lets make the council and mayor read this. I have been riding for over 40 years and luckily for me I ride from oak st to destrehan on an exclusive no autos bike path. If I were in the city I would buy a bulldozer to get back and forth to work safely.
