On Thursday, May 29, I had two bikes stolen from my locked, gated carport on the 3900 block of Royal Street in the Bywater. The thieves most likely came over the back of the fence through the neighbor’s yard. I filed a police report. A neighbor suggest I check M-V Thrift Shop at 3154 St. Claude. So the next day I went to the shop pretending to be bike shopping. One of my bikes was chained to the railing of the porch. The guy came out and tried to sell me my own bike. He then informed me that he had cruisers inside. Sure enough, my other bike was inside. I did not confront him. I left and called the police. By the time the police arrived they had closed up the shop and pulled all bikes inside. The police informed me that without a serial number or photos of my bike, they couldn’t do anything. They are aware that they are selling stolen bikes. They have been busted before. If your bike has been stolen and you can prove it’s your bike, I suggest checking there and contacting 5th District Police. DO NOT CONFRONT THEM, THEY MAY BE DANGEROUS. Let’s get them shut down.
