I recall a friend taking me to the Paul Morphy Chess Club in the CBD for lunch back in the 80's. It was one of the smaller New Orleans men's luncheon clubs at the time, many of which are sadly now gone (along with most of the businesses in the CBD).

      hi,

I was pleasantly surprised to come across this article because I, myself and a few of my friends founded the Paul Morphy Chess Club here in Sri Lanka approximately 10 years ago.

PMCC in Sri Lanka has one of the most impressive track records in the country winning the national inter club championship many times and the PMCC girls team also winning the womens inter club championship and performing at the top!

Would love to hear from other Paul Morphy Chess Club players around the world!

Cheers,
Danuke Kuruppu.

      He was indeed the greatest!

On the subject of Paul Morphy, please see my biographical novel about Morphy's life at http://mattfullerty.com

The Pride and the Sorrow: Press Release

Paul Morphy's story is a rites of passage tale about a boy who becomes famous by playing chess. It is also a cautionary tale about New Orleans, family pride and a mind who cannot cope with the real world...The Pride and the Sorrow is a cross between Josh Waitzkin's Searching for Bobby Fischer (about a chess prodigy) and Vladimir Nabokov's The Luzhin Defense (about chess causing madness).
