When I was young a few of my freinds & I would drive out to the first no named turn around/ exit, after the Michoud Blvd exit on I 10 East.
Interstate 10 had just been opened to all lanes.
We would put our pirouges in the water/marsh on the Lake Pontchartrain side of the overpass
We would paddle through what was a tall reed marsh then would come upon several large Indian Mounds covered with bones/skulls/complete.
My guess was the storms over the years unearthed all the bones?

What was the Name of these tribes burying on the southeastern shore of Lake Pontchartrain and why out in the grassy marsh of the lake?

I would hope that the mounds are recognized and are protected.
Seems very historic to me!
