Okay, let me give my local bona fides since no two people can have a disagreement about New Orleans without engaging in this tiresome practice:

I was born in Charity Hospital in 1969 to a Mother who was born in Hotel Dieu in 1942 to her mother who was an out-of-town-hipster-interloper born in Sicily in 1908 just months before her parents headed towards New Orleans.

Natives of New Orleans do not ask where you went to high school to judge and figure out the kind of person you are. This is a common misconception among newcomers to the city.

Since the names only came to be (or were revived, in the case of Faubourg Marigny) in the '70s, you can understand why no one I knew ever referred to them as Marigny, Bywater, etc. I was born in '85, parents in '42 and '51, grandparents in '16, '19, and '21. They were all adults when those names came into play.

And again, as RCP11189 said, it has a lot to do with where you were raised.

While it may be true that you are New Orleans native (something I would never dare claim to be), this writing *does* come off like Scott Glab suggests, even if that is not your intention at all.
