I had an open mind about this project until I finally saw the awkward, generic design that might be a good fit for San Jose, Houston or some other car-centric city/suburb but is a bad fit for the Marigny, a national treasure with a human scale that all New Orleanians can enjoy. Cummings does not have to scrap his project, he just has to find a more suitable site in NOLA such as the wasteland waiting for development near City Hall and the 'clarinet' Holiday Inn.

The fears of the FMIA remind one of the critiques of many "enlightened" Parisians of the monstrosity of the Eiffel Tower after its construction, as documented in the text below from a petition for its destruction, written by Chalres Garnier, architect of the Garnier Opera House:

“We come, we writers, painters, sculptors, architects, lovers of the beauty of Paris which was until now intact, to protest with all our strength and all our indignation, in the name of the underestimated taste of the French, in the name of French art and history under threat, against the erection in the very heart of our capital, of the useless and monstrous Eiffel Tower, which popular ill-feeling, so often an arbiter of good sense and justice, has already christened the Tower of Babel. (…) Is the City of Paris any longer to associate itself with the baroque and mercantile fancies of a builder of machines, thereby making itself irreparably ugly and bringing dishonour ?
