The Mardi Gras Indian Council Presents

INDIAN SUPER SUNDAY FESTIVAL 
SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 2013 - 11 AM; PARADE BEGINS AT 1pm

A.L. DAVIS PARK - CORNER OF WASHINGTON AVENUE AND LASALLE STREET

The parade, filled with magnificently feathered and beaded Black Indian gangs from across the city, takes off from the park at 1 pm. The procession, which includes the Hot 8 and TBC brass bands, members of the Young Men Olympian Benevolent Society and the Lady Buckjumpers Social Aid & Pleasure Club and more, makes a "circle route":

Uptown Messenger: Councilwoman Cantrell will push for better parade route enforcement

Robert Morris at Uptown Messenger has an update on District B City Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell's plans to seek tighter enforcement of safety laws along Mardi Gras parade routes, the subject of a January story in Gambit. Uptown Messenger with a story on a recent Cantrell-hosted meeting on the subject:

Press release: Sheriff reports 1,681 arrests during Super Bowl, Mardi Gras

According to a press release from the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office, 1,681 people were arrested in New Orleans between Friday, Jan. 25 and the end of Tuesday, Feb. 12, including 289 arrests during Super Bowl weekend. The Advocate reports 879 Carnival season arrest actions — a number that includes suspects who received summonses rather than being taken into custody — in the New Orleans Police Department's Eighth District, which covers the French Quarter and the Central Business District.…

While I was reporting our recent article "Ladder Control Problem," on the annual controversy surrounding safety violations along Mardi Gras parade routes, I reached out to District B Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell's office with some questions about city enforcement of the law.
