Roussel, who acquired the fitness center in December 2004, placed a cardio-training center and personal training studio in the front room, kept the center area for aerobics and moved the spinning studio to a room in the back. He also extended the 4,800-square-foot center's hours, opening from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Salvation Studio offers both monthly and yearly memberships, with both options enjoying unlimited access to classes and equipment. For visitors to town or people who want to check out the facilities, a day pass is available.
'We've added MATRIX Fitness equipment,' Roussel says. 'No one else in the [Gulf South] has it yet. It's pretty state-of-the-art stuff. It's elliptical trainers, treadmills and recumbent cycles with built-in heart monitors and display mechanisms.' He also added MATRIX strength-training equipment.
The club has a full range of classes. 'We've built up a very strong yoga program (that includes several types), body pump, spinning and some of the more traditional aerobics programs,' Roussel says. There's also Swiss ball toning, kids' yoga, circuit training, personal training, martial arts and more.
A Bride's Best Friend
Blush (5235 Magazine St., 324-6874) opens tomorrow, June 1, to provide brides everything they need to plan their wedding -- except the bridal gown.
'Our idea is to be a one-stop shop for brides for purchases beyond the wedding gown,' says Celeste McLaughlin, who owns the new business with Christian Arceneaux-Washington. 'All the reception accessories, the bride's accessories -- veils, shoes, handbags -- and bridal party gifts. We will also have a selection of lingerie and loungewear.'
In addition, Blush employs a makeup artist for consultations or to apply makeup for the wedding or other special events. There also is someone who can help make reception favors or give the bride ideas and supplies so she can make them. A "wedding library" showcases resources such as florists, photographers, videographers, bands and other service suppliers. There's also a secret "haute closet" to provide brides with fashionably elegant outfits for honeymoons and showers.
