Alernative Media Expo

The eighth annual Alternative Media Expo features bookstores, record shops, videographers and local aspiring artists. Sandwiched between 'zine authors and comic book illustrators are local nonprofits and recycled fashion designers. Among the more than 60 vendors are event partners Antigravity Magazine, Defend New Orleans, Dirty Coast, the Charitable Film Network, New Orleans Craft Mafia, Crescent City Comics and Gambit. Special guests include Ray Nagin Coloring Book author Karen Ocker and New Orleans Ladies Arm Wrestling. The event also marks the release of Antigravity's F.E.A.S.T. Comics Anthology, a collection of New Orleans comics and cartoonists. Look for confections and concessions from Lucky You!, and vegetarian- and vegan-friendly noshes from Cafe Bamboo. Meet exhibitors (and enjoy free beer) at the pre-expo party at Crescent City Comics (4916 Freret St.) from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, April 16. Expo admission is $5. — Alex Woodward
