Alison Wilson-Fried

New Orleans-born writer Alice Wilson-Fried appears at Tulane and Dillard universities this week to talk about her debut novel Outside Child (Komenar Publishing), which is set in New Orleans. It's the story of a suspicious death not on the high seas but the muddy waters of the Mississippi. When an executive at a paddlewheel-boat cruise company goes overboard, Ladonis Washington realizes that not just her career but her life may depend on finding out if it was an accident, suicide or murder. Wilson-Fried grew up in the Magnolia public housing project and worked in New Orleans — at a paddlewheel company no less. This is her second book and she's working on a sequel to be set during Katrina. She and her husband live in the San Francisco Bay area. Free admission. — Will Coviello
