Andre Williams

Since the early '60s, Detroit's famously irascible godfather of sleaze has been turning out R&B gems so nasty they'll leave a stain " including down-and-dirty tracks like 'Bacon Fat," 'Sweet Little Pussycat" and 'Chicken Thighs" to name a few. As a factoid, he's also famous for allegedly being the original, uncredited writer of the classic 'Shake A Tail Feather." In the late '90s, his career enjoyed a renaissance based in part on his relationship with Chicago's Bloodshot label but was curtailed " almost permanently " by ill health brought on by years of extreme living that left him in a coma for part of last year. That episode took place during the recording of an EP with the Morning 40 Federation, who may join him onstage to help him celebrate at this gig, which falls on Andre's hard-won birthday. Cake will be served. Ratty Scurvics opens. Tickets $10. " Alison Fensterstock
