Andrea Marcovicci

Andrea Marcovicci, a legend who has performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the White House, believes the role of a cabaret singer is to preserve popular songs from the past. At the same time, she revels in the capacity of the cabaret to pull new and deeper meanings from old favorites. With her usual elegance, songbird Andrea Marcovicci gracefully balances the tightrope between old and new in I'll Be Seeing You ... Love Songs of WWII at Le Chat Noir. The show features tunes by many of America's most prolific songwriters, including Hoagy Carmichael, Johnny Mercer and Jule Styne. Audience members will fight the urge to sing along -- but may just have to sway -- as Marcovicci regales them with favorites such as "Sentimental Journey," "The White Cliffs of Dover" and "Skylark." This show, which completed a sold-out run at the Oak Room of the Alonquin in New York last fall, is the most requested in Marcovicci's repertoire. This weekend's performance originally was slated for October. When the performance was cancelled due to Hurricane Katrina, Marcovicci added her efforts to a New York fundraiser that benefited cabaret artists from New Orleans. Tickets $30 on Wednesday (call 252-4498 for this performance only), regular tickets $45 (includes $10 bar credit). -- Vi Landry
