In 1978, a young guy of modest means and remarkable determination opened an art gallery on Magazine Street. It was a small space in a ramshackle area, but it marked the start of his rise to prominence in the competitive local gallery world. His name is Arthur Roger, his gallery is now on Julia Street, and he has represented some of the most significant talents the state and nation have to offer. More than 50 artists are represented in this show, ranging from veterans such as Jim Richard (pictured is Richard's painting
Plaid) to more recent arrivals. While it is hard to assemble a coherent exhibition of so many artists, this one not only works, it is also remarkably vibrant " a visual celebration of the gallery, its artists and the New Orleans art scene as a whole.
