Cool clocks with a little history in hand

The Spindle Clock, $405, is a 1957 George Nelson design that has been newly reissued by the Vitra Design Museum. The wall clock's smooth spindles are made of solid walnut with brass accents. Find it at the newly opened Design Within Reach studio (3138 Magazine St., 891-6520).
New Orleans sculptor Denice Bizot forged a mantle clock, $125, from salvaged antique fireplace parts. Weighty cast-iron and steel give substantial presence to a piece of functional art from Cameron Jones for Your Home (2127 Magazine St., 524-3119).
A French Art Deco clock, $480, from the 1920s features a lighthearted mix of two very heavy materials: iron and marble. The rosy marble complexion of its face makes it one of the most fetching timepieces at the Clock and Watch Shop (824 Gravier St., 525-3961).
