The Bayou Boogaloo returns for another big Memorial Day weekend bonanza of free music in Mid-City. Jared Zeller created the daylong music and arts festival last year to help restore vitality to the Katrina-ravaged Mid-City neighborhoods around Bayou St. John. This year will show just how far the neighborhood has come. The festival has two stages and a schedule including Walter "Wolfman" Washington and the Roadmasters, Soul Rebels Brass Band, Billy Iuso and the Restless Natives (pictured), country/swing ensemble Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue, Mardi Gras Indians and many others. The Mid-City Rulers, featuring area residents Anders Osborne and "Jumpin'" Johnny Sansone, will bring the day to a lively close. The family-friendly event will keep kids entertained with painting, storytelling, crafts and performances by the Valentino Jazz Puppets and others. More than 12 local restaurants, including Slice, Juan's Flying Burrito and Asian Pacific Caf will sell food and drinks. Admission is free. --
