Louisiana breweries NOLA Brewing and Bayou Teche are celebrating anniversaries.
From 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, March 6, NOLA Brewing (3001 Tchopitoulas St., 504-301-0117; www.nolabrewing.com) is having a party to commemorate "Six Years of Beers." There will be music by The New Orleans Suspects, Gravity A's Talking Heads tribute and TAUK. The Holy Grill food truck will offer Greek and Mediterranean food.
There will be limited quantities of the brewery's anniversary beer, a sour ale made with peaches and aged in white wine barrels. The special release highlights NOLA Brewing's new sour program and is now being brewed at production level in a newly constructed separate brewhouse with a 15-barrel fermenter and more than a 100 wine and whiskey barrels to age beer.
"As I look back on the last six years, I am amazed at how we have exceeded my wildest expectations," NOLA Brewing President Kirk Coco says. "Our customers have been the No. 1 reason for our success. We want to celebrate their importance to NOLA Brewing by throwing one hell of a great party."
Tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased at www.sixyearsofbeers.eventbrite.com. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door for $15.
Chefs Donald Link and Stephen Stryjewski host Bayou Teche's (www.bayoutechebrewing.com) fifth birthday party at Cochon Butcher (930 Tchoupitoulas St., 504-588-7675; www.cochonbutcher.com) from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, March 8. The celebration features Bayou Teche's Coteau Rodaire sauvignon blanc barrel-aged French ale, 5 Year Persimmon Sour, LA 31 Biere Pale, Quantum Hop (a double IPA with seven hops), Acadie and LA 31 Passionne.
Tickets are $40 and include all beers as well as charcuterie platters and small bites prepared by Butcher. There's zydeco music by brewery employee Louis Michot, a member of the Lost Bayou Ramblers and Soul Creole, and special guests.
"Cochon was the first account we had in New Orleans, so it's a fitting place to throw a birthday bash," says Bayou Teche co-founder Karlos Knott. — NORA McGUNNIGLE
