Black White + Gray chronicles the personal and professional relationships between photographer Robert Mapplethorpe (pictured) and curator Sam Wagstaff — and third wheel Patti Smith. The remarkable trio was at the center of the New York art scene during a flourishing period through the 1970s and '80s.
