Aidan Gill for Men

has been named the best barbershop in America in the most recent edition of Playboy magazine. Shop owner Aidan Gill — a Dublin native and longtime barber in London and New Orleans — has provided a refuge for men who want to get away from the frills of a beauty salon. At Gill's shop, customers can relax in the setting of a classic barbershop and enjoy a good beer while waiting for haircut or a hot shave that is, according to Gill's Web site, "so luxurious Irish poets fall to tears in describing it."

Congressman Anh "Joseph" Cao,

R-New Orleans, has been named the top Asian achiever by Northwest Asian Weekly. In 2009, Cao became the first Vietnamese American to serve in the U.S. Congress and the first Republican since 1890 to represent Louisiana's 2nd Congressional District. Cao's votes have crossed party lines on several occasions, and in November he was the only Republican to vote for the House health care reform bill.

Henry Heaton,

the Orleans Parish 7th District Assessor, assessed his new 3,000-square-foot home in Lakeview at just $88,600. After WWL-TV aired a report revealing Heaton's assessment and disgruntled reactions from neighbors who have much higher property appraisals (and tax bills), Heaton revised the estimate on the house to $410,000. Starting in January 2011, Heaton will be out of a job as New Orleans changes from a seven-assessor system to a single assessor.

Tim Whitmer,

chief administrative officer for Jefferson Parish, resigned from his position after a flurry of investigative reports by local media questioned how Whitmer's private insurance company, Lagniappe Industries, did business with other local governments and companies that have contracts with the parish. Among other dubious relationships, Lagniappe provided health insurance polices for River Birch Inc., a landfill company that has a $6.9 million annual contract with Jefferson Parish.
