Warren Easton High School students
were honored by the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club for being the top school contributors to Zulu's annual Toys for Tots drive. Easton students donated 12 boxes of toys for the holiday giveaway, and the krewe said it gave gifts to more than 1,500 area kids. For their efforts, the Warren Easton students received Zulu's "Mr. Big Shot" award.
Local restaurants and chefs
were nominated for James Beard Foundation awards last week. Chef Donald Link of Herbsaint and Cochon restaurants was nominated as one of the most Outstanding Chefs in America. Borgne Restaurant was nominated as Best New Restaurant; Cure for Outstanding Bar Program; Brigtsen's for Outstanding Service; Restaurant August for Outstanding Restaurant; and the Windsor Court's Grill Room for Outstanding Wine Program. Five local chefs were nominated for Best Chef (South): Justin DeVillier (La Petite Grocery), Tory McPhail (Commander's Palace), Alon Shaya (Domenica), Michael Stoltzfus (Coquette) and Sue Zemanick (Gautreau's). The awards ceremony will take place May 3 and 6 in New York City.
