Ally Financial and the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Charitable Foundation

each donated $25,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana as part of the 2014 National Automobile Dealers Association conference Jan. 24-27 in New Orleans. The donation will provide meals to more than 140,000 people. The NADA Foundation is the philanthropic wing of the association.

The Pussyfooters Marching Club

raised $34,000 at its annual Blush Ball on Jan. 25 to benefit the Metropolitan Center for Women and Children. The Pussyfooters is a Carnival marching group with more than 100 members, all of whom are women over 30. The center was founded in 1986 and provides shelter, counseling and other services to victims of violence and their families.

The Southeast Louisiana Motor Cops Association

donated $71,000 to the East Baton Rouge Parish Dream Day Foundation Jan. 9. The association raised the funds through training and safety seminars and at the annual Gulf Coast Police Motorcycle Skills Competition in October. The foundation was formed in 1994 and supports St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Gregory Newton,

former Kentwood police chief, pleaded guilty in state court on Jan. 14 to a felony count of malfeasance in office for tampering with more than $2,000 in cash missing from evidence. The cash was missing from $11,000 stolen from a Kentwood home in April 2012 and later returned. Newton resigned and received a five-year suspended sentence, five years of active probation and $2,500 in fines.
